All through September we took entries from Magic listeners and we are excited to congratulate our October teacher for the 2009-2010 school year... October's Teacher Who Makes Magic, Ms. Claire Blouir, a teacher at the Washington Center in Greenville. Read the nominating letter and see why we found this teacher to be Magic!
Washington Center is a school for special needs children. I am a parent of one of those special students and I recommend Ms. Claire Blouir, along with her assistant Ms. Rhonda Dreher, as the Teacher Who Makes Magic! Ms. Claire has been teaching at Washington Center for 28 years, and for most of those years, Ms. Rhonda has been one of her assistants. Even though my child is severely physically disabled, she continues to develop cognitively. So, I would like to help my daughter Sara write this letter to Ms. Claire and Ms. Rhonda. This will say it all.
“Dear Ms. Claire and Ms. Rhonda,
Thank you for always speaking directly to me when someone rolls me into the room in my wheelchair, rather than looking past me or speaking over me because I’m not capable of verbally responding. I appreciate that you take the time to ask me what I want and how I feel about something. Others try to avoid me while you are proud of me and never limit your attention. You expect me to learn while others have no expectations of me. I know that we have high demands in your classroom and have medical situations at times, so thanks for accepting us as we are. I tire easily, and you give me patience. I don’t learn in conventional ways, so you use talking and the switch-activated devices for me. Many days I struggle not only to learn, but to live. You always make me feel important. Thank you. You both are truly the special ones!!!
